The Audio-Technica QuietPoint ATH-ANC70 are decent sounding headphones. They do a good job with audio reproduction but lack a little bass. Unfortunately, noise Isolation is very weak and leaves much to be desired even if they leak very little sound.
- Good button placement.
- Good leakage performance.
- Weak build and creaky joints.
- Poor noise isolation.
- Weak Bass and tapered Highs.
The ATH-ANC70 are a mixed bag of good and poor design choices. The lightweight cushioned ear cups, and the convenient placement of the buttons are definite pluses. Unfortunately, this is offset by the weak, creaky headband and the thin basic cable that doesn't seem durable at all.
Lightweight, comfortable headphones. Certain areas of the headband feel a tiny bit stiff, but not terribly.
The ATH-ANC70 are not stable headphones. The thin headband and large earcups make these headphones sway a lot during moderate physical activity. They will fall off your head while running and are unideal for use while doing sports. On the upside, they have a detachable cable that should disconnect when hooked by something but because of the weak tension of these headphones, they may fall off before the cable can detach.
The ATH-ANC70 are decently portable headphones. They have larger ear cups than typical over ear models but have a much thinner headband. The earcups also lay flat or fold up into a more compact format, which makes the relatively big headphones take up less space in a bag. However, they are still too cumbersome to carry on your person and will not fit into large jacket pockets or smaller handbags.
The ATH-ANC70 offers decent audio reproduction of the mids, but the weak bass may disappoint fans of bass-heavy music and the tapered highs sound a little unexciting. Overall you will enjoy the sound profile, but it won't blow you away.
Poor performance. Depending on ear cup seal, low-bass could be lacking between 5-8dB at 40Hz. This is the range where the fundamental frequencies of kick drums (and other bass instruments) sit. Headphones lacking in this region lack the thump and power that most people find desirable.
Very good, unremarkable performance. The slight dip from 500Hz-750Hz negatively affects the fullness and forwardness of most instruments, especially vocals. The bump from 1KHz to 1.5KHz adds a bit of a nasally and honky quality to vocals and lead instruments.
Decent performance. The dip ranging from 4KHz up to 7.5KHz negatively affects the presence, intelligibility, and sibilance of most instruments, especially vocals.
High distortion overall, with 100 dB SPL being consistently over 1%. The peak at 4KHz approaches 10%.
The ATH-ANC70 do not deliver good isolation. The active noise cancellation is barely noticeable and does not provide robust enough isolation to be used on daily commutes or traveling. Leakage performance, however, is pretty good and will not disturb others at higher volumes.
The ANC (Active Noise Cancelling) doesn't do very much. It does best at around 200 Hz, offering about 12dB of reduction, which isn't much. At other frequencies, it offers even less noise reduction.
Very good leakage performance. There is minimum leakage up to 500Hz, but noticeable leakage from 1KHz to 4KHz. Practically, this will make vocals and cymbals sound thinned-out.
The ATH-ANC 70 only have noise canceling as an active feature. This makes them less versatile for other use cases than noise canceling headphones, as they lack both wireless or an app, to enhance and customize the sound. On the upside, they have a very long battery life that will easily last a weekend's worth of audio playback.
The ANC-70 use standard AAA batteries that give them up to 47 hours of battery life. They do not have additional features like an auto off timer and cannot be used without the batteries. Luckily the two-day continuous battery life means you do not have to swap out the AAA as often especially if you're on a trip or a particularly long flight.
No compatible app.
